About Amy
Why call myself an AutoGirl?
Well, call me weird, but I find cars and trucks and things that go - fascinating.
I couldn’t wait to drive. Whenever my folks went out, I would take Mom’s car out of the garage and drive around the park. By the time I took drivers training I was very comfortable behind the wheel and everyone said it just came natural to me.
My first boyfriend was a motor-head. He drove a Chevelle SuperSport with the small steering wheel. I had to beg to drive it, but drive it I did.
My first husband was an auto technician, and our first shop was named “Shade Tree Garage.” It was a 1 bay shop in a barn. No lift and little equipment, but lots of happy customers.
In 1994 I started working at Auto Craftsmen, an independent repair shop as the bookkeeper. Three years later I was the Service Advisor and nine years after that I was co-owner.
I also started writing about automotive safety and maintenance and repairs. A monthly newsletter, then a magazine column for Vermont Women Magazine. I joined the Car Care Councils Women’s Board and the WAAI: Women Automotive Association International and became an automotive adviser for www.AskPatty.com.
This blog is attached to my newest website www.AmysGarage.com. I am still working on the site. I ran out of money and need to figure out how to create another stream of income just for the website. I hope Amys Garage will become the best source of information for consumers and for shop owners & technicians.
For Consumers:
What they need to know to keep their families safe and their vehicles reliable and cost effective.
For Shop Owners & Technicians:
All the information and resources they “need” to be successful in the ever changing industry.
